Called to the Ministry_section 06 《天命与你》第6讲
Your last name, then, comes first. Your name is Christian, 你的名字叫做基督徒,这是我们的姓氏,and in Christ you are called by God’s name.
You have been brought from afar, as the prophet promised, 正如旧约的先知所应许的,你是已经从远方被领回来了,for you have been created for God’s glory, 因为你被造是为了神的荣耀,and he has brought you to himself.
What, then, of your first name? That, too, is given to you by God.
The Lord who calls you by his name also calls you by your own name: 43:1:“Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called you by thy name, thou art mine.”“不要怕,我已经救赎了你,我按照你的 名字呼召你,你是属我的。”This name, too, is given is in Christ.
Isa. 62:2《以赛亚书》62:2:“Thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name” “你会按照新的名字被召,是耶和华亲口所定的名字。”When Jesus called Simon, the fisherman, 当主耶稣呼召渔夫西门的时候,he gave him a new name: 祂赐给他一个新的名字:Peter, the “rock.”
That name did not describe him as he was;这个名字并不是指彼得当时是怎样的一个人; it called him to what he would become as the disciple of Christ. The newness of Christ’s salvation is shared by the people of God.
The new Israel is called Hephzibah, 新的以色列被称为Hephzibah“我所喜悦的”,“my daughter is in her”. Have you ever lost interest in Bible reading when you came to the endless names of the Book of Numbers, or the genealogies of Genesis or Chronicles?
You may stumble in pronouncing those strange names, 这些名字可能很难发音,but you would not want a Bible without them. Their names are recorded in the book of his covenant, 这些人的名字是记录在圣约的约书上,and he remembers. The very writing of the names is a memorial of the faithfulness of God. As the names of the tribes of Israel were written upon the precious stones in the breastplate of the high priest when he stood before the Lord to pray, so the names of the true people of God in all their generations are written in God’s book (Ex. 28:9-12, 17-21; 32:32; Ps. 56:8; 69:28).
Psalm 87 《诗篇》第八十七篇celebrates the great day of salvation when Go sums up his census books of the citizens of Zion.
Then it will be found那个时候会看到 that Egyptians, 会看到埃及人、Babylonians, 巴比伦人、Philistines,非利士人、 Tyrians,推罗人、 and Ethiopians埃提亚伯人,就是阿比西尼亚人, have birth records in the city of God.
The former enemies of Israel are among those who will sing, “All my fountains are in thee!”
Paul echoes this exultation as he writes to the Gentiles in the Roman colony of Philippi: 当保罗写信给罗马帝国的殖民地那个地方的外邦人的时候,他回想了这个欢欣:Euodia,友阿爹、 Syntyche,循都基、 Clement,革利免 and others还有其他的and the rest of his fellow-workers, “whose names are in the book of life”“他们的名字,这些保罗的同工,他们的名字都记在生命册上 ”(Phil. 4:3腓4:3)Not one is forgotten in the book of remembrance written before God for them that fear the Lord and think upon his name (Mal. 3:16).
It is well to reflect on the fact that your individual calling is in the midst of the people of God. You are called individually, but not alone.
But it is your name that God calls, 上帝所呼召的是你的名字,and even if it is one of many written in the Lamb’s book of life, there is a sense in which it is a secret between you and God.
Solomon’s God-given name was Jedidiah, “beloved of the Lord” , … 上帝所赐给所罗门的名字是耶底底亚,意思就是说:“耶和华所爱的”(II Sam. 12:25撒下12:25)… and the name God gives to you brings not only his blessing but the communion of his personal love.
In the Book of Revelation,在《启示录》, Jesus promises that to him who overcomes “I will give … a white stone, 耶稣在《启示录》应许:得胜的人,祂要赐给他一块白的石头,
and upon the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth but he that receiveth it” 上面刻着一个新的名字,没有人知道这个名字,除了领受这个名的人(Rev. 2:17启2:17)。
The deepest secret of your identity is in that name. Only God knows your real name, but that is the name by which he calls you. The horror of lost identity – namelessness – haunts modern literature. Madison Avenue knows about it, too.
A bank recently invited customers from the subway crowds with billboards asserting that at Marine Midland, they call account number 9957446, “Harry.” How appealing: 这是多么的吸引啊:a city bank with huge resources, but a place where they know me! Still, there is pathos in that appeal. A man may flee the computers of metropolis to Centerville, where everyone will call him, “Harry” – at least everyone who stays on speaking terms with him.
Will he then find himself? No, the metropolitan millions serve only to confuse the issue. The tragedy of alienation is not that so many people do not know me; 异化,alienation 就是人与人的隔离,异化,之所以是悲剧,不是因为这么多人认识我,it is that no one knows me, 而是没有人认识我,for I do not know myself.
The terror in modern thought does not spring from the addition of millions in mass population. It springs from the subtraction of One – the Lord my God. True identity can never come from relations with men,真的身份认同identity ,永远不能源自人际关系, for every relation is a role to be played.

To multiply the roles is to fracture the facets of emptiness. To concentrate the roles seems more promising.
The man with a few friends and one wife knows more personal involvement than the social butterfly.
Yet such involvement cannot engage his whole person, … 然而,这种的投入不可能让他全人投入的,…… and the man who seeks his identity in love to those nearest him falls into idolatry….
This is a (17:25) to psychology.
There is but one relation that can give identity to man, 事实上只有一种的关系能够给人身份的认同的,the relation to his Creator and Savior.
God’s call上帝的呼召 gives a task that is more than a role, 上帝的呼召给我们的任务是不仅是一个角色而已,for it engages a man’s whole person in the service of the Lord.
That call is to being as well as doing, 这个呼召让我们知道自己是谁,也知道自己应该做什么,being, doing, 是和做,to status as well as service.
Who are you? What are you to do? Both questions are answered in another: By what name does God call you? Clearly that question will take a lifetime to answer.
Peter was given his name, 是的,主耶稣给了彼得他的名字,but how little did he grasp its meaning!
Only as Christ stretched out his hand to him in the sea, 当基督在水上伸出手来抓住他,as Christ prayed for him that his faith might not fail, 基督为他的信心祷告,as Christ looked at him in the courtyard of the high priest after Peter’s denial, 在彼得不认主之后在大祭司的院子,基督看他一眼,as Christ sat with him by the fire of coals on the beach in Galilee after the resurrection; 及复活之后和彼得坐在加利利海旁;only in the upper room at Pentecost, 到五旬节在楼上,in the temple, 在圣殿,in the court of the Sanhedrin, 犹太人的长老面前,in the house of Cornelius; 在哥尼流的家;only in the unfolding of his apostolic calling did Peter come to know his name.
You learn to know yourself only as you learn to know Christ. Self-knowledge cannot be an end in itself. Paul never cries with Socrates, “Know thyself!”
Rather he says,他所说的是说, “That I may know him, 我要认识祂,and the power of his resurrection, 我要认识祂复活的大能,and the fellowship of his sufferings, 认识与祂一同受苦的团契,becoming conformed unto his death;效法祂的死; if by any means I may attain unto the resurrection from the dead” 好叫我也能够从死里复活(Phil. “For me to live is Christ” is the text of Paul’s life.
Chapter 1 comes to the end.
Chapter II.
Calling is God’s Royal Bidding
我们看到第一章,Calling is God’s created gift. That means God gives us our name and calls us. Now we also go into how God the Lord commands us to serve him.
Now let us read some of the verses we will come to meet in the first part of chapter II.
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; 他被骂的时候不还嘴,when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Another verse is Mark 1:15下面一节是《马可福音》1:15节,it was Jesus’ first summonwhe he came out for public ministry.
Mark 1,we will start from verse 14, Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (马可福音1:14-15 新译本)Next we’ll look into the book of Leviticus 25接下来我们来看《利未记》25:8-10:
“You shall count seven weeks of years, seven times seven years, so that the time of the seven weeks of years shall give you forty-nine years.“你又要为自己计算七个安息年,就是七个七年,你经过了七个安息年,四十九年的日子以后, Then you shall sound the loud trumpet on the tenth day of the seventh month. On the Day of Atonement you shall sound the trumpet throughout all your land. And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his clan. (Leviticus25:8-10 ESV)
(利未记25:8-10 新译本)That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; 第五十年是你们的禧年;in it you shall neither sow nor reap what grows of itself nor gather the grapes from the undressed vines. For it is a jubilee. It shall be holy to you. You may eat the produce of the field.
This is the Old Testament law commandment concerning the year of jubilee.
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;主耶和华的灵在我身上,因为耶和华膏了我,叫我传福音给困苦的人;差遣我去医治伤心的人,向被掳的宣告自由,向被囚的宣告释放;2 to proclaim the year of the LORD ’s favor,宣告耶和华悦纳人的禧年,
We will stop here and next time we will start with the content of Chapter II’s.
