《天命与你》导读第二讲,我们继续来看克罗尼博士所写的Called to the Ministry,中文版是《天命与你,蒙召服侍》这本书,我们和上一讲一样继续来讲:为什么要读天命与你这本书?
上一讲我们已经讲的很清楚,克罗尼是一位圣经神学家。为了教会的缘故,来建立一个圣经神学。今天圣经神学的书很多很多,克罗尼是开路者,是开荒牛。这一讲我们要开始一个的分题就是克罗尼他的写作的手法。Last talk we began to explain why we study this book, because Edmand Clowney is a biblical theologian …(1:22). Today in this talk, we are going to look at another some topic that is Clowney’s English writing style. Very important, if we could get the riches of this book. 很重要的,假如我们要看到这本书的丰富,the subtle layers很微妙的一个一个意义的层次。
Dr. Clowney is not very tall, and quite slim. 克罗尼博士个子不高,也偏瘦。Every time he came into the classroom he would carry his three inch binder containing the notes of his main courses. 每次进入课堂他都带一本至少三英寸这么厚的一个夹子,里面都是他主要课堂的笔记。And at that time, the podium is very small. 当时那个讲台都非常小的,啪一下,他放下来这个夹子,就已经越过了这个讲台的宽度了。And when he put down his 3 …(2:24)binder, he seezed the little podium, and he was holding on the podium and shake it. 有的时候他就抓着这个讲台摇,我们就怕他摇到我们这边。We were afraid he would fall over.He does not speak loudly; 克罗尼的声浪不高; he has been acclaimed as a “master of the whisper.” 有人说他是一个“微声说道的大师”。特别是他的呼吸。Some times he brathe …that means he was excited. (深呼吸)就是说他讲道非常兴奋了。He is saturated in Scripture, 克罗尼对圣经是读到烂熟的,and can quote or refer to Scripture – especially the Old Testament – at any time. 随时可以引用或者是暗指圣经,特别是旧约。
It is not easy to take notes in his classes! 坐到他的班上要做笔记是非常不容易的!Too much to take down. 要写下来的太多了。In this book you will also see some of his techniques as he is a master of the English language.这本书里面另外你会看到他是一位用英文写作的写作大师。Let us illustrate this from the first few pages of the book.我们会从这本书的头几页来举例说明。
First of all,ONE WORD, DIFFERENT MEANINGS 首先,同一个字有不同的意义The Bible uses word with different meanings as well. 圣经本身就有同一个字有不同的用法的。In this book, 在这本书里面,The word “call” “呼召”这个字is used in different ways. “call” “呼召”这个字有不同的用法的,“Call” can mean God’s authoritative summons – 呼召可能是指上帝权威性的召唤–thus, he says, when the Lord Jesus Christ calls, he WILL be answered. 所以克罗尼说,当主呼召的时候,人必然的回应的。
God’s call is his efficacious summons. 上帝的呼召是祂这个大能有效的召唤。But the word can also mean: How do you call such and such a person?
Call 这个字也可能是指称呼、称谓:你怎么样称呼某某人的呢?So this leads us to the concept of “name”, or “naming”.这里就牵涉到名字和命名这个概念了.ONE WORD, DIFFERENT MEANINGS.一个字不同的意义。
The next technique is COMPARISON AND CONTRAST; 第二个技巧是:比较和对照In the word beginning the book, 这本书一开卷,克罗尼就说,Clowney syas that: In English, we often think of the “last name” of a person as “the family name.” 一般,英文的一个人的名字,先有这个姓氏,或者是last name后面那个名字,英文姓氏是排在后面的。Then there is the “first name” or personal name, 然后才有自己的名字、个人的名字、称谓,第一个名字,or “given name,” given by one’s father or mother. 或者说叫做被赐予的名字,是父母亲给的。First name, personal name, givne name. 名字是赐予的名字,last name is family name. 后面的名字的姓氏。
Clowney here makes a comparison and contrast.克罗尼这里作为一个比较跟对照。The Christian, he saye, has a “last name”: 他说基督徒有一个姓氏:this last name is “Christ” 这个姓氏就是基督,he is a “Christian.” 他是个基督徒,每一个基督徒都有这个姓氏的。Every Christian has his last name. Then he has his first name,然后他有他个人的名字,his “given name.” 就是赐予给他的名字。
But但是 (here is the contrast):(这里就是对照): Both the “last name” and the “given name” are “given” 无论是姓氏还是所赐予的名字,都是所赐予的,they are both given by God.都是神所赐予的。If we know what our real name is, the name that God has given us, then we will discover our true identity and our calling/vocation.我们一旦认识到自己真正的名字是什么的时候,我们就会发现自己的身份、真的身份是什么,然后自己的呼召跟职业是什么。
再来一个英文的名词的解释,NOTE ON TERM. The English word for “occupation” often is “vocation.” 英文讲到职业可能是用occupation,往往是用vocation. It is based on the Latin word “voca,” which means “calling.”vocation,这个字是源自拉丁文的字根 “voca” ,就是呼召的意思。所以中文有种职业称为天职。So vocation is one’s calling from God.
The next technique we will introduce is OVERLAPPING ANALOGIES
下面我们再来讲一个写作的技巧,就是重叠的比较。For example,calling and name, 我们已经做了一个解释了,就是呼召跟命名,two comparisons, overlapping stack together, 两个的比较,一个是神的呼召、称呼,然后名字,压缩在一起,重叠在一起来讲。Because of this calling and this name, we have our identity. 因为这个呼召、这个名字,我们有了自己的身份。We know who our Father is , 我们知道我们的父亲是谁?And we discover our vocation of calling.我们也会发现我们的天职、我们的呼召是什么。Another overlapping analogy另外一个重叠的比较,克罗尼说Clowney says,God makes you His, He makes you belong to God. 上帝使你成为属祂的,上帝救你的时候,使你成为属于祂的,but also makes His name your name, 不单如此,上帝使祂自己的名字成为你的名字,your name is God’s name. 你的名字就是上帝的名字。
Now let’s look at another PARALLELISM好了,我们现在来看另外一个,就是平衡的概念.In chapter 1, the title is God’s creative gift. 这本书第一章的题目是,上帝创造性的恩赐。什么意思呢?What does it mean? It means that God created your name, youe indentity, just like He created the world with His all mighty word. 意思就是上帝创造了你的名字,创造了你的身份,正如祂创造了世界一样,都是用祂大能的话语来创造的。But your name and your indentity not just a creation of God, but also a gift, 但是你的名字、你的身份不单单是上帝所创造的,它是一个恩赐,是上帝所赐予给你的。Creative gift创造性的恩赐。
Chapter 2 第二章:God’s royal bidding. 神的呼召是大君王的吩咐。

You see the one who created you, who maned you, who called you is the sovereign Lord and King那位创造你的,那位为你命名的,那位呼召你的,是掌主权的大主宰来的。Now contrast, 又来一个对照,but this sovereign Lord is also the suffering servant. 可是这个大主宰也是一个受苦的仆人,或者是奴隶。Jesus Christ is the suffering servent. 耶稣基督是一个受苦的仆人。Jesus Christ is also the sovereign Lord who became the suffering servant.耶稣基督是一个大主宰,成为受苦仆人的大主宰。
And so Chapter 2 A and B, 我们看到第二章的A and B, we are called to the Cross, cu we also called from the throne我们是被呼召,来到十字架面前,要跟随基督背十字架的,但是我们又是从复活的基督的宝座面前领受呼召的。
This explains Christ’s humiliation and his glorification. 这里我们看到耶稣基督的降卑和祂的被高得荣耀。
Let’s look at another technique我们又来看另外一个的技巧
ALREADY AND NOT YET: 已然却未然,已经来的却没有来Ofcause we know that the kingdom of God proclaimed in the New Testament is already come and not yet come. 我们知道福音书里天国的信息,天国是已经来临,但是却又没有完全来到的。Not only this, 不单如此,it is not only in the Gospels. The entire Bible has this tension between the “Already” and the “Not Yet.”不单单是在符类福音,马太、马可、路加,我们看到“已经、还没有”这个紧张的张力。
In fact, the Old Testament promises事实上旧约圣经上诸般的应许,你光是看亚伯拉罕一生就看到了。You can see the micro(13:43) through Abraham’s life. God promises and God promises, but God didn’t deliberate right away. 上帝应许应许却不是马上兑现的。And God’s promises in the Old Testament all fulfilled in Jesus Christ. 而旧约里上帝的应许一直要等到耶稣基督来应验才兑现。And there when Christ comes, the kingdom is come, but also not yet. 耶稣基督来到世界上,祂的国度已经来了,但是却又是没有完全的来到.
As thought John the Baptist asked a question “Are you the one who is to come?” 所以施洗约翰就问一个问题“你是不是那位刚要来的那位?”And this tenssion makes reading the Bible and the book of Clowney very excited. 这个紧张这个张力让我们读圣经、读克罗尼读书读时候非常的津津的有味的。
I would like to add this observation: 我喜欢这样的加上一个个人的观察:this tenssion speaks to existential philosophy .这种的紧张的张力是向存在主义哲学讲话。This existentialism has no hope. 存在主义没有盼望,because the tenssion is the tension of hopeless. 因为他们所讲的紧张的张力是没有盼望的、绝望的张力。But Clownsy speaks of tension which has hope that is solid grounded. 但是克罗尼讲这个紧张的状态是有盼望的、有扎实的盼望的根基的。So I’d like to say that Dr. Clowney “out-existentializes” existentialism. 我会说克罗尼博士是把存在主义的哲学”将军”了,更上一层楼。
Next technique再来一个:INDIVIDUAL FOR US TO CORPORATE; 个人的和群体的。
Chapter 4 第四章,personal calling, church’s calling呼召是上帝对你个人的呼召,也是整个教会领受的呼召。Relate with salvation and ministry跟这个有关的,就是从我们的得救进入到我们的服侍。再来一个,another one is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 再来一个就是圣父、圣子、圣灵。The Father calls Israel, the Father names Israel圣父上帝呼召以色列,圣父上帝为以色列命名,Jesus Christ calls Christians, Jesus Christ names Christians耶稣基督呼召基督徒,耶稣基督为基督徒命名。So all that Johova and all that the Father is, Jesus is. 所以耶和华所是的一切,圣父所是的一切,耶稣基督都是。Today Jesus Christ has ascended into heaven, Everything that Jesus Christ does on earth today is carried out by the Holy Spirit.今天耶稣基督已经升天,今天耶稣基督在地上所做的一切都是由圣灵在地上所执行的。The Father, son and Holy Spirit. 圣父、圣子、圣灵。
The last couple of techniques 最后几个写作的方法is obvious是很明显的。First is doctrine. 首先是教义,SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY系统神学的手法,even though the book is from BIBLICAL THEOLOGY method. 虽然这本书是用圣经神学的方法来写的。In the very beginning of the book, 一开卷,Clowney says that when God’s call you and give you his name, 当克罗尼说上帝一呼召你名字的时候,he thinks of the 2 doctrines of efficacious call and adoption, 他想到的是有效的恩召和做儿子的名份,from the application and redemption. 这个都是圣灵施行救赎的两个的作为。
And of course, 当然,Clowney speaks of the humiliation and the glorification of Chrait, 克罗尼讲了基督的降卑和基督的得荣耀,and then the authority of Word of God. 还有神的话语的权威。Now we usually think of this as the doctrine of the inspiration of the Bible in systematic theology,一般来说,我们想到的是系统神学里面的圣经论。But Clowney looks at the authority of the Word from a biblical theology point of view. 但是克罗尼是从圣经神学的角度来讲上帝的话语是大有权威的。
Finally, let me (18:42)sketch out some of the themes, grand themes in biblical theology,最后我再来勾画出圣经神学里面的庞大的总主题:One is covenant,一个就是约,God made one covenant to save His people.上帝设立一个约来拯救祂的子民。From Adam’s sin to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, and Jesus Christ, 从亚当犯罪之后,到亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各、约瑟、摩西、大卫、所罗门一直到耶稣基督,one covenant.一个的约。
The kingdom天国的国度The kingdom, likewise, is theme that ran throughout the whole Bible, 同样是贯穿整本圣经的总主题,and the prophets and apostles, God’s servants and agents of God’s word. 还有先知和使徒,就是上帝所差遣的、传递祂自己的启示的仆人们。
Finally worship: 最后敬拜:From the Tabernacle to Solomon’s Temple to Jesus Christ (HE IS the Temple) to the heavenly Jerusalem。从会幕到所罗门的圣殿,到耶稣基督祂自己就是圣殿,到天上耶路撒冷的圣殿。Dr. Crowney would porteay us all of these rich layers, 克罗尼博士会给我们勾画这么多丰富的微妙的层次。You say so what? 你说这个又怎么样呢? What does thie do with me?,跟我有什么关联呢?You remember that we began by outlining several kinds of Christians, 你记得吗?我们一开始的时候讲到有几种的基督徒。Christians often serve because they have been inspired? to serve or burden to serve. 有的时候基督徒侍奉只是因为他们有负担,有感动,有心愿。
A biblical doctrine of calling will give you a solid ground where your desire, your burden can stand. 圣经的呼召论让你的感动、你的负担有一个稳固的根基,你的负担可以站在这根基上的。Some Christians feel that they have some experience in their lives, therefore they think they are called. 有些基督徒人生有些的经历,所以他认为这个经历就是他的呼召。The biblical doctrine of God’s call gives your experience a ground to stand on, and also a norm to evaluate it. 圣经的呼召论给你的经验一个扎实的根基可以站立得稳,或者说给你一个标准来衡量你的经历是否要用你的方法来解释的。Some of us made some commitment of decision to serve God.我们有些人做了某一种的决志,要侍奉上帝。
The Biblical doctrine of the call tells you that God made commitment first to you before you have ever made any commitment. 圣经的呼召观告诉你,在你还没有做任何的决志委身之前,上帝先决定委身来得着你。So all of these very subjective indevedual basis for our ministry. 所以我们服侍的很多基础都是很个人的,很私有的,主观的, can be transcended by a solid biblical basics.我们都可以超越这些,因为有一个更扎实的圣经基础。From this biblical foundation, we come back and evaluate in rich and renew our dedication. 从这个圣经的基础,我们可以再回来检讨我们自己的心愿,再使我们的心愿负担更加的丰富,重新的再委身,再奉献自己。That’s why we study the book Call to the Ministry.这就是为什么我们要读《天命与你》。
