We are come to Chapter 1, section A, 我们先来看第一章的A部分: Called by God’s Name. 你是按照上帝祂自己的名字被呼召的。
Let us read one passage of Scripture, 我们先来读一段的经文,Isaiah 49:1, 6《以赛亚书》第49章, verse 1 and verse 6 , 第1节和第6节,Isaiah 49:1以赛亚49:1, Listen to me, O coastlands, and give attention, you peoples from afar. 众海岛啊!你们要听我的话。远方的万族啊!你们要留心听。The LORD called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name.我在母胎的时候,耶和华就呼召了我;我出母腹的时候,他就提了我的名。(以赛亚书49:1 新译本)
Verse 6 第6节:“It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel;“你作我的仆人,使雅各众支派复兴,使以色列中得保全的归回,只是小事, I will make you as a light for the nations, 我还要使你作列国的光,that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”使我的救恩传到(或者伸展到)地极。”
Isaiah49:1,6 , 以赛亚书49:1,6 ,当然是指耶稣基督–弥赛亚。Of course these verses reffer to the Messiah who was to come.
Beginning of section A, A部分开始:Every Christian has had God’s name solemnly given to him.每一位基督徒,都有上帝自己的名字,很严肃的、已经赐给他的。He has been baptized into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. 每一个基督徒都是受洗归入,或者进入到圣父、圣子、圣灵的名里面的,这个名是单数,the name,三位一体。
第十、Whenever he goes to church, 每次基督徒去教会的时候,the triune name of God is pronounced upon him again in the blessing of the benediction. 而崇拜的祝福的时候,上帝的名字是宣告在他身上的,三位一体的名字,圣父、圣子、圣灵的名,宣告在他身上。
In commanding the blessing of his name to be used by the Old Testament priests, God said: 当在旧约的时候,上帝吩咐他的祭司用他的名来祝福他的时候,上帝这样说。 (Num. 6:27.《民数记》第六章第27节,)圣经或者上帝这样说,“他们要这样奉我的名为以色列祝福。” “奉我的名”直接翻译是,“把我的名放在以色列人身上,我就会亲自赐福以色列,“So shall they put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.” 这个意思是上帝要把他的名放在以色列人身上。This is the first question of your calling. 这个是关于你的呼召第一个要回答的问题。
Do you bear God’s name? 你身上带有上帝的名字吗?In the Old Testament temple, 在旧约的圣殿里,the priest wore a golden plate in his turban, 祭司的头上帽子里面戴着一块金子,carrying the inscription, “Holiness Unto the Lord.”上面写着:“归耶和华为圣”这里是来自《出埃及记》第二十八章的,this reffers to Exodus 28:36,《出埃及记》第二十八章36节上帝的吩咐:
“You shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet, ‘Holy to the LORD .’ (Exodus28:36 ESV)“你要用精金做一面牌子,在牌上像刻印章般刻着:‘归耶和华为圣’。 (出埃及记28:36 新译本)
这个是祭司们头上的一块金牌。A gold plate above the preist’s head.
In the heavenly Zion of John’s vision, 而使徒约翰,当他看见天上的异象的时候,the saints of Christ have his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. (Rev. 14:1.) 基督的圣徒,他们的头额上刻着基督的名字和父上帝的名字。(《启示录》第十四章第1节)Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. (Revelation14:1 ESV)《启示录》第十四章第1节我又观看,见羊羔站在锡安山上,跟他在一起的还有十四万四千人。他们的额上都写着他的名(羔羊的名)和他父的名。 (启示录14:1 新译本)
请注意,Note. The author goers from the Old Testament tabernacle/temple all the way to the worship in the heavenly Jerusalem. 我们作者从旧约的会幕或者圣殿的敬拜一直讲到天上有多少的敬拜。The whole process has its central point in Jesus Christ. 当然整个过程的中心是耶稣基督。Jesus Christ is the true temple. 因为耶稣基督他自己就是真的圣殿。Jesus Christ is the true temple.耶稣基督就是真的圣殿。]
John sees one grim alternative: 使徒约翰看到另外一个恐怖的景象:the mark of the Satanic beast on the foreheads of small and great, rich and poor, free and bond. (Rev. 13:16.)这个兽、野兽的记号刻在其他所有人的额上,不论是年老、年少、妇孺、贫穷、自由人还是奴隶(Rev. 13:16.《启示录》十三章16节)
It must come to that.只有这两种可能。 Neutral anonymity is not possible for man, made in God’s image. 因为上帝造人是按着他的形象造的,因此人没有可能很中性的中立的命名,没有名是可能的。He must worship or blaspheme. 人要么就是敬拜,不然必然就是亵渎的。只有这两种可能。
Salvation means that God writes his name on your head, your hand, your heart.蒙救赎的意思就是,上帝把祂自己的名写在你的头上、你的手上、你的心里面。He makes his name yours, by making you his. 因为祂使你属于祂,归属于祂,因此,祂就把祂自己的名字给了你,祂自己的名字就作为你的名字,making his name your name,上帝使祂的名字成为你的名字,就好像祭司的头上的金牌一样,just like the gold plate on the preists head, just like whatwill happen to us when we go to heaven.就好像我们将来到天上的时候一样。
His calling comes with power.祂的呼召是以大能而来的。Ezekiel saw the mass grave of the people of God. 以西结所看到的异象是上帝子民的大坟墓。Dry bones filled death valley all about him. 死亡之谷充满着骸骨。But the prophet was moved to cry, 可是先知以西结被感动,他喊叫说,“O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!” “骸骨啊,你们都要听耶和华的话!”– and there was resurrection before his eyes. 在他的眼前就展开了死人复活了。(Ezek. 37.《以西结书》第三十七章)God is not God of the dead but of the living;上帝不是死人的上帝,乃是活人的上帝; his name is life.祂的名字就是生命。
[ 我这里做两方面的注释,I give 2 notes here: 首先God is giving of his name and gving of life is one and the same thing.上帝把祂的名字给我们跟上帝给我们生命是同一件事。And it comes powerfully.大能临到的。That’s why the Chapter’s heading is God’s calling is his created gift.所以这章的标题是上帝的呼召是创造性的恩赐。created means give life创造性的就是上帝赐予生命的。
This reminds me of one section in Clowney’s other book, Preaching and Biblical Theology: 这个让我想到克罗尼博士另外一本书《讲道与圣经神学》里面一段: when he begins to talk about God’s word, 当他开始讲神的话的时候,he talks about “God’s sovereign word” and how God uses his sovereign word to creat the world.他讲到上帝是用祂主权的话,上帝是用祂主权的话,创造世界的。 ]
[The second note: 第二方面的注释: Clowney says, his name is life. 上帝的名字就是生命。We may know that the name Jehovah really is based on 4 Hebrew letters JHWH. a form of the verb “to be.” 我们可能都知道耶和华的希伯来名字是用4个希伯来声音组成的,JHWH, 这个字的字根and root verb is “to be.”就是“是”的意思。A literal translation may be given by this: 可能我们这样来直译这个JHWH的名字:I will always continue to BE who I always Am. 上帝说,我必定继续是我从来就是的那位。So his name is life. 祂的名字是生命。He will continue to BE alive Lord and God. 祂必定继续是一位活的神,活的主宰。
Christ’s call reached Zaccheus curiously perched in a sycamore tree:当撒该爬上桑树,显得很奇怪的时候,基督的呼召临到他: “Zaccheus, come down.”“撒该下来。”It reached Lazarus hopelessly sealed in a tomb: 基督的呼召也临到那个绝望的,封在坟墓里面的拉撒路:“Lazarus, come forth.”“拉撒路出来。”
Has that call reached you? 基督的呼召是否已经临到你呢?There is no call to the ministry that is not first a call to Christ. 若不是先有来到基督面前的这个呼召,不可能有做牧师传道的呼召的。

You dare not lift your hands to place God’s name in blessing on his people, 你的手不敢举起来奉神的名字来讲祝福的话,让神的赐福临到他的子民,until you have first clasped them (your hands) in penitent petition for his saving grace. 除非你的双手事先紧紧抓住耶稣基督,认罪悔改,恳求他赐给你恩典,不然你不敢举手,用他的名字来祝福的。
Until you have done that, 除非你已经悔改,the issue you face is not really your call to the ministry. It is your call to Christ. 你必须所面对的不是是否要做传道人的呼召。你必须面对的是要来到基督的面前的呼召。Don’t seek the ministry to save your soul. 你不要为了救自己而寻求做牧师传道的呼召。我这里把冠词“the”拿掉也是一样的道理,if I take the article “the” away, the meaning is the same. Don’t seek ministry to save your soul. 你不要用侍奉来尝试让自己得救.
The Lord commits the gospel to the keeping of those who have committed themselves to his keeping. 唯有那些已经把自己交托给主的,主才会把福音交托给他们,作为福音的管家的。
(II Tim. 1:12, 14.《提摩太后书》第一章第12和14节: I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me我不以为耻,因为我知道我所信的是谁,也深信他能保守我所交托他的(或译:“他所交托我的”),直到那日。Verse 14 第14节:By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you. 要靠着那住在我们里面的圣灵,保守所交托你的善道。或者是存放在你里面的、你们中间的那个的善道,那个美善的信托deposit 。就是说唯有我们先把自己交托给神,神才会把真理交托给我们。Only if we first commit ouselves to the Lord, then he will intrust his gospel of truth to us.A man cannot earn his salvation by preaching that salvation cannot be earned. 人不可能透过传讲救恩是不能赚回来的这样子借此得救。
Claim Christ’s promise:来吧,凭信心领受神的应许: “He that cometh unto me I will in no wise cast out.” “来到我面前的,我必定不丢弃他。”(John 6约翰福音第六章)He will receive you and make his name yours forever. 祂必定接纳你,让你永远拥有祂的名字。II Tim. 1:9.《提摩太后书》第一章第9节,“Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not because of our works, but because his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.” “上帝救了我们,以圣召呼召我们,不是按照我们的行为,却是按照他自己的计划和恩典,这些都是在万世以前在基督耶稣里赐了给我们的”。
Not a lifetime, not even an eternal-lifetime, can measure the span of God’s calling. 我们的一生,甚至乎到了天堂永恒的一生,都不能穷究上帝呼召的长阔高深。Like a rainbow, it arches from horizon to horizon. 它好像洪水之后的彩虹一样,从天的一面到天的另外一面,是那么的广远的。
God’s life-giving call of grace is the source of our salvation; 上帝恩典的呼召,是赐生命给我们,是我们救恩的来源;God’s life-shaping call to glory is the goal of our salvation. 而上帝荣耀的呼召,是塑造我们的生命,使我们生命成型的,他是我们得救的目的。
我停一下。I stop here. Clowney is making two (para…20:56),这里我们看到双重的平衡,the call of grace and the call to glory. 被呼召领受恩典,被呼召进入荣耀中。God calls us to give us grace, God calls us into glory. God’s calling of grace is source of our salvation.上帝恩典的呼召,是我们救恩的来源。But God’s call to glory shapes our lives.但是上帝让我们进入荣耀的呼召,是要塑造我们的生命。That’s the goal of our salvation.这个是我们得救的目的。要被祂塑造进入到荣耀。That’s the goal of our salvation,into the glory and our life may be formed and shaped by him.
我们继续lut us continue.Indeed, the rain bow of our own calling reflects the uncreated light of God’s grace, shining from the dawn before all mornings. 诚然,我们每一个人自己的呼召的彩虹反应出上帝恩典之光,这个不是被造的光,这是创造者之光,来自所有的晨曦之前的晨曦。(就是说来自永恒的。)
With awe the Christian confesses: 基督徒以敬畏的心宣告:“Behold what manner of love the father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God, and such we are.”“你们看,父赐给我们是怎样的爱,就是让我们可以称为神的儿女,我们也真是祂的儿女” (I John 3:1.约翰一书3:1)
God’s children are called to be like God. 上帝的儿女蒙召,是要像上帝那样。Whoever bears God’s holy name 任何身上带有上帝圣洁名字的人must be a “holy one,” a saint. 必须是一个圣洁的人,必须是一个圣徒。
It is not enough for him to say, “hallowed be thy name.” 祷告里面仅仅说“愿人都尊你的名为圣”是不够的。He must hallow God’s name in a life that fulfills his calling. 他必须在生活中活出或者成全他的呼召,这样子来称呼父的名为圣。
“Like as he who called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy.”“正如呼召你的主是圣洁的,因此你们务必圣洁。” (I Pet. 1.15.彼前1:15)
The call of the Old Testament saints to walk with God was often set in their names. 旧约的圣徒们蒙召要与上帝同行,往往这个呼召已经设置在他们的名字里面了。
They carried the divine name “El” or “Jah” in witness to their calling. 他们的名字往往包括“耶”或者“约”这个字,这两个音都见证着上帝对他们的呼召。“Elijah”以利亚,亚这个字, means “My God is Jah.” 意思就是我的上帝是亚。“Joshua” and “Isaiah” 约书亚、以赛亚,declare that the Lord saves. 这两个名字宣告着,耶和华施行拯救。Israel,以色列, Samuel,撒母耳,Hezekiah希西家, Josiah约西亚, Nehemiah尼希米, and Zechariah撒迦利亚all were joined to God by name.他们的名字都使他们与上帝联结。
If they disobeyed the Lord their God,they dishonored his name. 他们若不遵从他们的上帝,就是羞辱了祂的名。But if, like, Elijah, they were filled with zeal for the Lord, 但是他们若好像以利亚那样为耶和华大发热心,their lives preached the texts of their names.那他们的生命就好像一篇的讲章,解释着、阐明着他们的名字的意义的.换言之,他们的名字好像是文本,他们的生活是解释这文本的讲章。
[关于大发热心,zeal for the Lord参考《诗篇》第六十九篇,还有《约翰福音》第二章,Cf. Psalm 69; John 2.]God’s grace goes even further.上帝的恩典还不止这么多的。Not only does he give his name to his people, 上帝不仅把自己的名字赐给祂的子民,but he takes their name as his own. 上帝更取了他们的名字作为上帝自己的名字。
He reveals himself as “El-Elohe-Israel,” God, the God of Israel.上帝是这样自我启示的:祂说祂是上帝,以色列的上帝, God, the God of Israel,“El-Elohe-Israel”。He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 祂说祂是亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各的上帝。By the names of his sons, God is identified to the nations. 上帝透过祂众子的名字,向列国展示祂的身份。或者说让世人能够辨认祂。这里克罗尼用identified 这个字,又是身份认同,又是让别人能够认出祂是谁。
Did God’s goodness exceed his wisdom? 这有另外一个问题了:上帝的慈爱是否越过了祂的智慧呢?就是说上帝是不是不智慧,祂爱爱得太多呢?In other word, is God unwise to love this much? Could he not forsee the consequences of identify himselv with this people? 祂岂不能预见到,预知这样与祂的这种百姓认同会带来什么后果吗?
God’s people defiled his name, 上帝的子民玷污了祂的名字,and made it a vain oath among their conquerors. 在征服他们的外邦人面前发誓这样子妄称祂的圣名。God’s name was blasphemed among the nations, 上帝的名字在列邦中被亵渎,precisely because he was known as the God of Israel. 恰恰就是因为上帝是被称为以色列的上帝的。No, God’s grace was not in vain, nor was his purpose thwarted. 不是的,上帝恩典不是徒然的,祂的计划也没有失败。
我们又记起《提摩太后书》一章第9节,this reminds us of II Tim 1:9, we are called a calling to his grace and purpose, 我们是按照祂的恩典和计划被呼召的,and God’s grace never fails, his purpose never fails, 上帝的恩典永远不会失败的,祂的计划也永远不会失败的。He calls to the distant nations and the isles of the sea to hear his proclamation. 上帝呼召远方的列国、海岛来听祂的宣告。His calling-祂的呼召。所以这里我们看到,克罗尼又是一个要将存在主义的军。Here we see how Clowney out existentialised existentialist.
上帝那么的爱,God loves so much that he idenfies himselv with Isreal. 祂自己与以色列认同。He calls himself the God of Isreal. 祂自己称自己为以色列的神。And what happens when Isreal blaspheme his name? 但是以色列人亵渎祂的名字的时候又怎么样呢?这里有个紧张的状态,here is a tense situation, and Clowney will resolve that tension for us. 克罗尼会解决这个张力的问题的.
In our next lasson, our next section, 在我们下一讲就会看到,the resolution is of course Jesus Christ. 耶稣基督当然就是解决这个张力的那一位。
